Luctricia began her training at the age of 15 when she attended Dillard High School for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale and then furthered her training at Pine Crest Preparatory School in Cypress Creek. She attended Florida State University and pursued a professional career in dance at the Alvin Ailey America Dance Center in New York City. Her training includes ballet, Graham, Dunham, Horton and jazz. Under the tutelage of Ethel Winters, Luctricia blossomed and was named the first recipient of the Stanley Heckman Educational Trust Fund Scholarship, amongst many other honors. Throughout her illustrious career, Luctricia has had the opportunity to express herself through many genres of dance, and her repertoires of credits are substantial. Her dance theater credits include Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble (NY), Philadanco (PA), and the Lula Washington Dance Company (CA). She has earned the admiration of many dance luminaries and renowned choreographers, the most prominent being Alvin Ailey, Talley Beatty, Carmen De LaVallade, Gary Delotch, Ralph Lemon, Elisa Monte, Jennifer Muller, Joan Myers-Brown, Milton Myers, Jeanne Ruddy, Lynn Taylor-Corbett, Sylvia Waters, Ethel Winters and Donna Wood. Luctricia’s musical theater credits include: Mixed Blood Theatre (MN) -“Black Belts I, II, and III”; The Children’s Theatre Company (MN) -“Amazing Grace”; Penumbra Theatre Company (MN) -“Black Nativity”; Burlington Theater Company (VT) (A Bee Miller Production) -“Josephine” - The Josephine Baker Project; Walnut Street Theater (PA) -“Twist”; and the world premier of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Requiem/Variation,” Opera Omaha (NE). Her other credits include film, television and print work. The most recognizable, Sony/Paramount pictures “Cinderella” with Brandy and Whitney Houston. In December of 2000, she wrote, directed and choreographed “The Chocolate Nutcracker” which was performed to a sold out house at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Ms. Welters has also served as the coordinator for Miss Black America Pageant. Despite all of her achievements, Luctricia finds that her most rewarding achievement or roll is that of teaching. She has been described as a “bewitching” performer who also imparts the joy of dance into the lives of adults and children alike. As a dance instructor, she is no less radiant. Her teaching credits extend from east to west coast. On numerous occasions, parents have extolled her for her ability to inspire and challenge young movers and shakers. She is touching lives and imparting that which has been deposited into her. Luctricia is an inspiration, as graceful as a gazelle, and those under her tutelage will one day enumerate their achievements because of her legacy. |
