COMMUNITY MASTER CLASS At
the African American Research Library and Cultural Center Fort
Lauderdale, Florida
– Jubilee Dance Theatre (JDT) is the first Broward residential dance company
to proudly present former Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre Principal dancer,
Nasha Thomas-Schmitt, for a community master class in the Fort Lauderdale area.
JDT and the friends of the African
American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC), 2650 Sistrunk Boulevard,
will be hosting this master class Wednesday, February 4, 2004. MASTER
CLASS Pre-registration
forms can be obtained from the AARLC on the following dates: 01/07, 01/14,
01/20, 01/21, 01/27 or 01/28; via email: jubileedancetheatre@msn.com
or by fax: 954-316-8912. Participant pre-registration fee: $20
(Deadline 01/28/04); participant registration fee at the door: $30.
Registration starts at 5:00 p.m.; master class begins at 5:30 p.m. JDT was
founded in February 2003, under the direction of Luctricia “Lu” Welters,
whose vision was to develop a style of risk-taking choreography that would be
innovative and unique. Lu
Welters’ vision was to express the art of dance by working with dancers from
all backgrounds and cultures. Claudine
Carter Pereira, Assistant Artistic Director, has also been part of this vision
since 1999. They both defy
stereotypes by thinking outside the realms of the traditional dance theater:
this company has truly ventured “OUT OF THE BOX.” AUDITIONS
– 2004 SEASON Jubilee
Dance Theatre, a
driving passionate force of entertainment that’s “out of the box,” will
be holding auditions, Saturday, February 21, 2004 at 3:00 pm.
JDT is seeking male and female dancers trained in various dance
techniques including: Ballet,
Modern, Jazz, & Hip-Hop. Proper
dance attire is required, including ballet and jazz shoes. Bring 8x10 photo and resume.
